My Exam Week

Wow, okay. So my exams are this week. I am more than a little nervous, I have to tell you. I’ve been studying, but I still don’t know if I’m ready. I mean, I thought it might be like the first time I wrote an exam for high school. You’re scared, but once you’re in there, you realize it’s all the same stuff you learned in class. You heave a sigh of relief and set to work, get a decent grade and move on. Now, I haven’t written a university exam yet – my first one is tomorrow (fingers crossed, people) – and like I said, I thought university would be similar.

And then I asked someone – one of my friends who had already written an exam this week, if it was like high school at all. He looked at me, laughed a little, then just gave me this look. The look that people make when they are dead on the inside.

And then I cried.

Oh, and a note to all of you; studying is good. Not studying is bad. Staying up a bit later than usual to study is okay. Staying up all night to study for an exam you aren’t taking for another three days and then sleeping all day to make up for it, thus rendering yourself hopelessly nocturnal and feeling nauseated for the rest of the week is NOT okay. I learned this by making the mistake. You should all learn from MY mistake. DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME. OR IN YOUR RESIDENCE OR APARTMENT. It’s just a bad idea. If you’ve got exams, sleep properly so you don’t fall asleep during them.

So I have my first exam tomorrow, another on Friday, another on SATURDAY (WHY?! WHY, UNIVERSITY?? YOU WERE SO GOOD TO ME UP UNTIL NOW!! WHY DID YOU HAVE TO MURDER WEEKENDS??) and my last one on Monday. Now here is the kicker – my residence has an extremely stupid rule: you have to move out of residence THE DAY OF your last exam. Unless it’s in the evening, then you are allowed to stay until the next morning, but otherwise, you are OUTTA HERE. Doesn’t that seem grossly unfair to you?

What if you’re like Harry Potter during the holidays and you have to stay at school because you don’t wish to return to the cupboard under the stairs? (Now would be a fun time to point out that my room at home is in the basement and is indeed located under the stairs. Just sayin’.) It just seems a bit ridiculous.

Security even comes and does room searches to make sure people are gone. What if they just went out to buy toilet paper when the guards stop by? Seems silly to me. If it really comes down to it and I can’t get a train ticket home until the day after my last exam, I’ll probably just hide out in my friend’s room for the night. Not that breaking the rules is funny or anything (it’s actually hilarious).

Anyways, I’ll be sure to let you guys know next week how my exams went. After Monday I get three weeks of winter vacation, which is gonna be SWEET. I can’t wait. Good luck to everyone with their exams. As melodramatic as I am about it, I’m sure mine will be fine, and yours will to o . If you’ve been to the classes and taken your notes, then you know the material. Just do some review, try not to stress too hard and you’ll do just fine.
