Municipal Government: Make a Difference

Years ago, government was considered the place to work if you wanted stability, a pension and regular hours. Those same benefits still exist, but it’s a different world working for government today, especially at the municipal level. In municipal government, you deal directly with the people you are serving as a public sector employee. You can really make a difference in your own community

As the times change, so too does the work environment. The Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) knows that workers want more than just a paycheck—they want to feel they are giving back to society. By providing services in the community, they can directly benefit the place where they live. There is room to grow, try different jobs, enjoy flexible hours. Today’s municipal government allows for a workforce that is as diverse as the people it serves.

HRM offers a range of employment. Remember when, as a child, you heard the siren of a fire engine and you ran to the window to see the truck zooming by your house? The excitement you felt back then can translate into a career helping people today, whether as a firefighter, or as an engineer working on a plan for development that will change the city for the better, or in lots of other ways!
